Tomorrow, I'm auditioning for about 48 casting reps from around the state. No pressure. But it is in part for that reason that I think a down day today was such a good thing. Though I also sometimes think I should have Saturdays more often.

February 8 - Saturday
I can barely remember the last time I had a Saturday to just be a Saturday. It probably wasn't actually that long ago, but it feels like it. I had one today. I slept in past noon. I lounged with my cat for a good portion of the afternoon and didn't shower until 4:30. And it was glorious.

November 22 - Short
This is going to be short 'cuz I'm out being a person so I'm going to save the things I really want to discuss for later. But I just want to say really quickly that sometimes I feel really lucky, just in general. Right now is one of those times.

October 9 - Snuggly
Some days, you just want to be snuggly. Cover yourself in comfortable, soft clothing with a good, autumn weight to it. Curl up in a soft blanket. Eat and drink things that warm you from the inside. If you have a super soft, super snuggly companion animal to snuggle with, even better. Today was one of those days.
Sadly, I did not get to have a snuggly day today. Too much life stuff going on - work, rehearsal. Not that those are bad things - I'm enjoying our rehearsals quite a bit and any day I get to act is a good day. But when the weather starts to turn like this, when it becomes sweater weather, sometimes I just need to have a snuggly day.
Here's hoping I can make time for one soon.

September 24 - Tuesday
Tuesdays used to be my favorite.
Oh so many moons ago when I used to go out lindy hopping six nights a week, Tuesday night was the night to go out. There was a bar approximately three blocks from my apartment that I can scarcely remember the name of now (it has since changed owners, names, and decor) where some really awesome dancing happened. They had a back room that we would take over. Push the chairs out of the way, and cut a rug on the floor. All of my favorite dancers used to go there. It would get hot and sweaty and crowded; the men would bring extra t-shirts for when they sweated through the first one. We twirled and stomped and lindied and shagged and Balboaed and Shim-Shammed. It was glorious. Absolutely glorious. And since it was just blocks from my apartment, I could stay as late as I wanted and not worry about how I was getting home. I loved that place.
Rumors! Was that the name of the place? Rumors? Do any of my swing dancing friends read this blog who can verify that?
So I used to spend my week waiting for Tuesday to come so I could go dancing and see all of my friends. But things change, life moves on, and Rumors (if that was what it was called) closed down. The good dancing is now elsewhere on Monday nights, though I hardly recognize any of the faces I see on the dance floor now. And while I know I could dedicate the time and money to becoming a "regular" dancer again, I know that there are also other things in life that bring me more joy than the pursuit of becoming a nationally recognized lindy hopper. I just want to social dance from time to time.
And Tuesdays. Poor Tuesdays. Now they are just days to get through. A little better than Monday, not as good as Thursday. But they still have that faint aftertaste of the glorious days they once were, which makes them sadder now than Wednesdays. The day I used to love and wait for every week is now just another day, stripped of all of it's glory.
Maybe that's why I was so proud to get my tattoo on a Tuesday.

August 15 - Gluttony
...and because I don't have enough projects on my plate just yet, I'm now doing a show next weekend, too. Huzzah!
I apologize for the shortness of this blog - more details on the show will come along somewhere I'm sure - but yeah. Too much to do and not enough time in which to do it. Wish me luck and here's hoping I get to come up for air in September...

August 14 - Quick
I have so much to say about the amazing meal I just ate, but I'm busy hanging out with friends at the moment, so I'm going to choose to live life instead of writing about it. I'll write more tomorrow.

August 11 - Quick Tidbit
What I love most about acting is that it gives me a forum in which I get to feel everything. Today, I got to feel everything. I'm exhausted and impressed that my mascara stayed where it was supposed to be and my head hurts and my eyes are dried out and I'm oh so tired. But I got to feel everything today. I got to live today.
I'd say that's a pretty good day.
I'd say that's a pretty good day.

August 8 - Knowledge
I sometimes wish I knew more about how odor and fragrance actually work. Then I might be able to understand why my city has smelled like sewage for two days and why suddenly, my office smells of three-day old fish.
Somebody hid a fish in the air ducts, didn't they? Gosh darn it.

My voice needs a rest today. I'll be back tomorrow.

July 12 - Nerves
I'm nervous about tomorrow's shoot. Tomorrow, we fence and we die. There is a lot that is going to have to go into these scenes and I hope we are able to get all of it given the time constraints surrounding the production. So I'm nervous.
That's all. And Pacific Rim is ridiculous - I can't wait for the movie physics guys to get their hands on it. This coming from a non-physicist. It is ridiculous. I highly recommend you see it so we can laugh about it together.
Have a good night!

June 15 - Um...
I have nothing wise or pithy to say today. But I do get to wear my Tenth Doctor suit tonight, so there's that.
Happy Saturday!

May 30 - Punny
I had something really insightful and poignant to say today, but I have completely forgotten what it was. The memory is the second thing to go, they say.
I don't remember what the first thing was, either.

May 7 - Informal Poll
Is there anyone out there who doesn't go into convulsions when they hear the Menards commercial jingle? Is there anyone who hears it and thinks, "Hey, I'd like to shop there because the jingle is so welcoming and friendly?" Is there anyone on whom that jingle is an effective marketing tool?
No offense to the person who wrote it, but I think that jingle's time has passed. Most of the time, I would rather scratch my eyeballs with a nail than listen to that jingle, be it on television or the radio. I don't often find myself in need of home improvement supplies, but when I do, I find myself actively avoiding Menards because I don't want to support a company with such an annoying jingle. Yes, it is petty of me. Yes, I am setting myself up for any of you, my dear readers, to drive me batty on a whim. But I just can't. I just can't take that jingle anymore. I just can't.
Am I alone in this?

April 26 - Burbs
I hadn't expected to see cows grazing today. Huh. I guess that's what happens when you venture out of the city.

April 23 - Thank You
I was the recipient of a random act of kindness from a stranger today. I don't know what motivated the act, but I thanked the performer of the act several times as sincerely as I could for the act. It wasn't anything big or life-changing, but still. It was a random act of kindness that should not go unnoticed or unacknowledged.
Thank you, woman I don't know, for your generosity!

Hi!
Hello? You. Yes, you there.
You.
Right there.

April 21 - Um...
Okay, so you know how I get emails that are not intended for me? Today, I got one saying an inmate has blocked my email address so I can't email him anymore.
I have not ever emailed an inmate to my knowledge, nor do I see myself doing so in the future unless someone I know becomes incarcerated. I certainly do not know the inmate who blocked me. But the really weird thing was that I found myself rather miffed that this inmate was so offended by something someone using my email address had done, that he felt it necessary to block me. What was the offense? And won't he be unpleasantly surprised to learn he blocked the wrong email address?

April 20 - Hamlet
We had another Hamlet rehearsal today, which included a tentative shoot schedule. Eep! It's getting real now.
But you know what? I think I can do this. And I think I can do this well.

April 18 - Forty-Two
There is a man who turns forty-two today. Actually, I'm sure there are many men (and women) who turn forty-two today, but there is one in particular that I would like to talk about. I've never met him, but his existence holds special significance for me, as does the number forty-two, so I feel like I'm on a bit of a geek overload today.
This particular man gets to spend his forty second birthday filming the fiftieth anniversary episode of Doctor Who. If there is a geek Nirvana, that would be it.
Like I said, I've never met this man, and am therefore acutely aware of the fact that his significance to me could be considered really weird and creepy. This is partially why I'm posting about him here on my blog which he will likely never see as opposed to jumping on the Tumblr bandwagon or whatever. I don't want to come off as some crazy stalker fan with crazy expectations of meeting him someday or anything like that. I just want to try to put into words what his art means to me.
Because it is that - his art - that means the most to me. Don't get me wrong - by all accounts, he's a really nice guy and given the opportunity, I'd love to chat with him. Everyone I know who has met him says he is absolutely lovely. Whenever I see him interviewed, he is charming and intelligent and witty and fun. He seems like the sort who knows how lucky he is to do what he does and it seems like he treasures every moment of it. He also comes across as very well-balanced. He does not have his own Facebook or Twitter accounts, and he does not talk much about his personal life with the press. It seems to me like he has learned how to be an actor in the public eye without losing his right to privacy as a human being.
But his acting... I am drawn to him particularly because of the energy he pours into every project he does. Sometimes it's a bit much (like in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), but even when he is not stellar (which he is most of the time), he is fearless. He is present. He is invested. And he is so good in so many things. His Hamlet is brilliant. I've never seen him creepier than in Secret Smile. I think everyone who saw The Decoy Bride fell in love with him just a little bit. When some of my girl friends saw him for the first time in Fright Night, they said they completely understood my love and admiration for this man. There is even a silent short film called Traffic Warden where he's helping this woman get her goldfish back into water wherein he is so charming and delightful. At a time when being disconnected and apathetic is trendy, it is refreshing and brilliant to watch an actor who is invested, who is involved, who actually loves doing what he gets to do on a daily basis. And this brilliance is magnified by the fact that he happens to be a nice person who others enjoy working with at the same time. He did not have to choose between being nice and being talented - he has managed to do both. For that, I applaud him. Because of that, I look to him as an inspiration for who I want to be as a performer and what sort of career I would like to have.
(Side note: I'm not crazy person who wants to be him, but I am inspired by him to find my voice as a performer and mold my career into something I can be proud of from all viewpoints.)
So today, on his forty second birthday, when much of the internet is saying that he is now officially the answer to life, the universe, and everything, I would just like to say thank you. Thank you, David Tennant, for... Just thank you. I hope I get to work with you someday, and if I ever have that opportunity, I hope I am able to keep up. If I don't, I hope you get to see my Hamlet someday and I hope it makes you smile.
Happy birthday, David Tennant, and here is to many, many more.
